Just Transformations: Reimagining Sustainable Food Systems and Cultures

Hybrid Conference English From $50,-

Organised by Agriculture, Food & Human Values Society (AFHVS), Association for the Study of Food and Society (ASFS), University of Vermont

About this event

The conference invites critical and bold engagements with the idea of Just Transformations in Food Systems: transformation processes that center sustainability, equity, sovereignty, ecological care, and other forms of transformative action, examining structural and systemic roots of food system injustices while illuminating pathways being forged by communities, movements, and practitioners striving for regenerative, democratic, and just alternatives. The conference features an agroecology track led by UVM's Institute of Agroecology that addresses urgent agrifood challenges and adopts holistic socio-ecological approaches, focusing on agroecological topics including livelihoods, biodiversity, polycultures, the right to food, and the co-creation of knowledge. Attendees will join a community of scholars and practitioners at the University of Vermont, which hosts critical work on regional food systems, sustainable development, agroecology, ecological economics, transdisciplinary team science, and the nexus of food, agriculture, and planetary health. The conference offers multiple presentation formats including papers, panels, posters, roundtables, and creative sessions such as kitchen demonstrations, hands-on workshops, films, and tastings.
